Pilbara Stories

A photographic and social documentary project designed to present a diverse and globalising encounter with Port Hedland curated for FORM with internationally acclaimed photographers Martin Parr (UK), Annet van der Voort (The Netherlands), Ketaki Sheth (India) and Bharat Sikka (India). A collection of 100 portraits celebrated the diverse heritage, individuality and experiences of everyday life in the Pilbara with a focus on Port Hedland and surrounds. Audio interviews were transcribed and presented as text in the publication and as recordings on the app which was created to function as an exhibition guide.

The project facilitated a collaboration and exchange with India that was showcased at the Lalit Kala Akademi as part of the Australian Cultural Festival in India. The photos were also shown at GOA Photo and Bharat Sikka created Looking For Nyamu.
